PALMDALE LEARNING PLAZA CHALLENGES STUDENTS WITH RIGOROUS INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE CURRICULUM STANDARDS

May 09 16:06 2019

Palmdale Learning Plaza, a K- 8 school, has been integrating the International Baccalaureate (IB) program into the school for over a decade. In those efforts, Palmdale Learning Plaza was recognized as an IB World School in the Primary Years Program for K- 5th grade since 2010, and more recently the school was also recognized as an IB World School in the Middle School Years Program for 6th through 8th grade in 2017.

As an International Baccalaureate World School, Palmdale Learning Plaza has shown understanding and implementation of the practices, mottos, and philosophies of the IB program. An IB Education is inquiry-based instruction revolving around effective, research-driven approaches to teaching and learning. It uses global contexts and conceptual understanding to help students understand different languages and cultures, explore significant content, and developing disciplinary, interdisciplinary, and transdisciplinary understanding.

The Primary Years Program adopted at Palmdale Learning Plaza through the IB Program gives students building blocks that will help them acquire a more meaningful education throughout their lives— starting as young as Kindergarten. The Primary Years Program helps young minds explore a set of themes that can be applied to any subject area, helping them navigate each lesson. Those themes are: Who We Are, Where We Are in Place and Time, How the World Works, How We Express Ourselves, How We Organize Ourselves, and Sharing the Planet.

At the Palmdale Learning Plaza, students are encouraged through the IB program to understand how they learn and why it is important to learn, to ask questions, to set goals, and to develop skills that can help them bring meaningful change in the world around them.. This type of education helps students to find meaning and purpose in their education from a young age, setting them on a successful path to their future.
