Vecna Robotics CEO Dan Patt has joined the Robotics Engineering (RBE) Advisory Board at the Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI).
The Robotics Engineering program at WPI is celebrating its 10-year anniversary on April 30, 2019. WPI was one of the first universities to offer bachelor’s and graduate degrees in robotics engineering, positioning WPI at the forefront of robotics education and research. The rigorous program prepares graduates for the technical, social, cultural, and ethical challenges of a robotics workforce.
The RBE Advisory Board consists of an elite group of industry and academic leaders in robotics including Amazon Robotics Director of Product and Systems Scott Dresser, iRobot CTO Chris Jones, Boston Dynamics Chief Scientist Al Rizzi, MassRobotics CEO Tom Ryden, and Harvard University Founder of the BioRobotics Laboratory Professor Robert D. Howe.
Dan Patt shares his enthusiasm for contributing to this highly regarded robotics engineering program at WPI, “It’s important for industry to be active in the education and advancement of students that will be joining the robotics industry. This program offers some of the best resources for students to pursue award-winning robotics projects and prepares them for top-tier recruitment opportunities.”
Dan previously served as Deputy Director for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency’s (DARPA) Strategic Technology Office (STO). He joined Vecna earlier this year and successfully led the company through their first round of funding with Drive Capital. As the company grows, Dan and Vecna seek to empower people in the age of robotics. An economic transformation cannot be achieved by robots alone. The real value is created through collective contribution in workflows, combining the individual strengths of humans and robots to yield superior results.
