Ft. Oglethorpe, GA – Nov. 14, 2018 – Zeffon Willi, founder and executive director of Untapped Potential ILP, announced that there are openings in the organization’s independent living program. The program is for youths aged 18-21 that are transitioning from foster care or a group home to an independent living environment.

“We specialize in preparing older foster care youth for life in the real world,” said Wills

Most foster children and those living in group homes must typically leave when they attain the age of 18, with no skills or resources. The Untapped Potential independent living program provides a safe and quality living environment, services and resources to prepare individuals with the essential skills to live independently as responsible adults.

To qualify, individuals must be between the ages of 18-21 and currently within the foster care system in GA. To be eligible, young adults must also be attending school or employed full-time. Housing is in the form of furnished apartments with appealing décor and equipped with all the necessities for conducting everyday life, from linens and electronics to housewares.

A full range of services are offered, encompassing career and educational planning, housing and money management, and work and study life. The program also addresses effective communication and self-care, relationships, and daily living skills that enable participants to care for themselves through the independent living program.

Participants receive hands on training and life skills enrichment to assist them with interpersonal interactions in multiple situations. Positive social interaction is emphasized and every individual has the benefit of support from a life coach. Individuals have ample opportunities to practice new skills they acquire and Casey Life Skills assessments are utilized to determine each individual’s needs and strengths.

Untapped Potential ILP is one of a very few opportunities for young adults transitioning out of the foster care system. The organization’s independent living program leaves nothing to chance, providing individuals with a myriad of essential skills, resources, and safe housing that allows them to succeed and take their well-deserved place in society.
